Each year, the Oceanside United Soccer Club awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have come through the OUSC program. The scholarships assist them to defray the costs of a post high school education.
Profits from the club's annual indoor and outdoor tournaments, derived chiefly from the proceeds of the indoor tournament's annual journal as well as field advertising and sponsorship revenue from the outdoor tournament, help fund these scholarships. In the past ten years, over $60,000 has been awarded to more than 100 graduating seniors.
Scholarships are awarded annually as follows:
The Rudy Lamonica Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of former player and son of Club founders Phil and Bessie Lamonica. Rudy sadly passed away in 1970 at the young age of seventeen. The club's annual indoor tournament is also named in memory of Rudy.
The Rudy Lamonica Memorial MVP Scholarship is awarded to one boy and one girl who are chosen the Most Valuable Players on the Oceanside High School Boys and Girls varsity soccer teams as selected by the varsity players themselves.
The Bob Schrager Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the dedicated volunteer and past Director and Club Vice President. The club's annual Labor Day Tournament is also named in memory of Bob.
The Rosanna Denaro Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the long time club member and volunteer who embodied the spirit of volunteerism. Roseanne gave her time and energy selflessly, despite having no children in the program.
The Paul Zois Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the former OUSC coach who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001 .
All scholarship applicants must meet the eligibility qualifications (SEE GUIDELINES & APPLICATION BELOW) and follow the application procedures set forth by the Board of Directors. Announcement of the scholarship winners is made at either Oceanside High School 's annual awards night or the individual recipient's home school senior honor night, as well as at OUSC's annual June awards ceremony.
The deadline for submission of applications for the 2008 scholarship program is April 1, 2008.
