It is with great sadness that we inform everyone of Joe Goldberg's passing. Many of our OUSC families who grew up in Oceanside knew or played soccer for Joe. The Oceanside United Soccer Club was formed in 1962 as a single team of 15 boys. It was co-founded by Ian McDougall and Joe Goldberg, both lifetime members of our Club's Board of Directors. This team began play in the German-American league. Today that league is known as the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL). At that time, OUSC was the only Nassau County, Long Island team represented in the league.
Joe was also elected into both the LIJSL and Eastern New York Soccer Halls of Fame.
n 2007, the LISFL named its annual indoor tournament after Goldberg. On Tuesday, LISFL president Gus Xikis announced that the tournament would be called the Joe Goldberg Memorial tournament.
Joe was a legend in the sport and touched many of us over the years. Without the likes of Joe, OUSC would not be the Club it has become over the past 50 years.
